Many footballers go off to different parts of the world to spend their vacations, but Arsenal’s German attacking midfielder Mesut Özil was seen in Mecca last week performing Umrah pilgrimage.
Photos of Özil in Saudi Arabia have gone viral on social media over the last few days.
The Arsenal midfielder is one of the most popular Muslim football stars in the world along with Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez and Adnan Januzaj of Manchester United, among others.
Özil, who has Turkish roots, was recently visiting Dubai where he gave tips to young promising footballers then he went to Jordan where he played football with young refugees at the Zaatari camp. The German World Cup winning star can often be seen reciting prayers and making Dua every time before he steps onto the Emirates Stadium’s pitch.
Despite his adherence to the teachings of his religion, the King of Assists has been in an on-again, off-again relationship with his singer German girlfriend Mandy Capristo. Because Umrah is an occasion where a Muslim’s Dua is accepted by the almighty, there is a chance that Özil might have prayed to God that French boss Arsene Wenger would finally sign a new marksman for Arsenal that can finish off the German’s unrivalled assists inside the box.
