ALBAWABA - The Iranian women's football team recently became the talk of social media after standing silent throughout Iran's national anthem in protest of the Islamic regime ahead of their opening match against South Korea at the Asian Cup on Monday.

While Iran lost 3-0 to South Korea in its first match in Gold Coast, Australia, the team's rebellious act left a clear mark on its stance toward the Islamic regime, prompting the praise of many human rights activists for the women's "courage."

A social media user wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "That moment spoke louder than any anthem ever could.
When women athletes stand in silence on a global stage, it reflects years of courage built under pressure. It’s not just about a song  it’s about dignity, voice, and the weight of lived experience.  The world noticed."

Another wrote, "This hits different. Real courage on the pitch. Iran’s women showing the world what strength looks like."

Additionally, the viral video captured Iran's head coach, Marziyeh Jafari, smiling during the act. According to News18, Jafari reportedly refused to answer questions during a post-match press conference regarding the assassination of the former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

This comes as tensions in the country escalate due to heightened anti-regime protests and Iran's ongoing war with the US and Israel, as the situation in the Middle East reaches new heights.

Israel recently launched a preemptive attack on Iran in a joint attack with the US, sparking chaos in the Middle East. In response, Iran struck US bases in Bahrain, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi.
