ALBAWABA - A video has gone viral in the last couple of hours on the X platform (formerly Twitter) showing members of a Haitian gang eating human body parts in footage that took the internet by storm.
The video went viral in a short time and emerged along with the unrest in Haiti which started in March 2024, after armed gangs stormed the two largest prisons in Haiti, releasing 3,700 inmates. Following the prison incident, the gangs called on Prime Minister Ariel Henry to resign.
A disturbing video then emerged online showing members of the Haitian 'cannibal' gang on camera eating human body parts after setting the person on fire.
In the clip, a man was seen chewing on something similar to a human finger, then went on to tear flesh out of the leg of a person who was on fire.
According to Hindustan Times, the video was first shared on Instagram along with the caption: "Disturbing footage of the Haitian cannibal gang eating body parts of one of their victims as he cooks in the fire."
However, due to the explicit footage in the video, it was deleted from most of social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter) and Meta's Instagram.
What's the truth behind the Haitian 'cannibal' gang video?
According to some social media activists on social media, the video, which went viral and caused controversy showed Haitian gang members involved in "cannibalism", dates back to two years old.
A person posted the video and said that reviewing it with a journalist, who has been covering the Haiti situation, "It turns out that this video is from over 2 YEARS ago of a battle between the Gran Grif and Ti Mepri gangs in the Artibonite Valley. It has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with Jimmy "Barbecue" Cherizier or today's uprising. The man pictured did this gruesome act to terrorize his rivals."
Times Now also reported citing agencies on social media that the video is old and has nothing to do with the current unrest in Haiti.
On the other hand, X journalist Dom Lucre posted the video and reportedly said that the person in the viral video, which was removed from X, is the "Haiti Cannibal Gang leader named "Barbeque".
He added that "'Barbeque' is now the most powerful man in Haiti after their Prime Minster Ariel Henry fled."
Elon Musk responds to Haiti video:
Social media personality Auron MacIntyre posted a news headline regarding the video of the Haiti gang and wrote on X: "A gentle reminder that the border is open and there is essentially nothing preventing immigrants from bringing this madness here
In fact, when those immigrants arrive at the southern border the Biden admin often flies them directly into the heart of the country."
X owner and Tesla CEO reposted the photo and wrote: "Exactly"
