ALBAWABA - Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, marking the first time the two allies meet since the start of the Iran War.
The relationship between the two allies has been back and forth over the recent months of the war, with both sides now looking to calm things down a bit as all major attacks are halted in the region and, notably, Israel has not launched a single strike on Iran in the latest round of escalations.
The outlook seems to be that the U.S. will be attempting a new round of negotiations with Iran after Trump’s meeting with Netanyahu; where they will presumably iron out the details of the kind of talks they will be having with Iran.
"This is a great privilege, but it is also a great responsibility,
"We will discuss all the issues on the agenda, first and foremost Iran. Naturally, our goal is to safeguard our security and also to expand the circle of peace around us," Netanyahu said as he departed Israel.
The two leaders have not always agreed on how that peace looks like, with relations hitting a low point in April after Trump described Netanyahu as a “very difficult guy” while Netanyahu said the difficulty was just a “tactical disagreement”.
Alongside Iran, the two parties will also discuss Lebanon where a peace framework was signed between Israel and Lebanon but has proven difficult to implement on the ground.
The leaders will also touch on Gaza as what’s left of the strip and its inhabitants live in limbo with no reconstruction plans progressing beyond a mere exchange of words.
It’s notable that Netanyahu's visit comes months ahead of Israel's elections in which he plans to seek another term.
