ALBAWABA - Rumors are flooding several social media platforms claiming that Iran successfully assassinated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a targeted attack.

The rumors first circulated on X (formerly Twitter) after several accounts wrote, "BIG NEWS. If the rumor is true, then Israel's PM Benjamin Netanyahu has been killed by the Iranian Army." The copy-paste quickly gained traction on the platform, garnering millions of views in hours.

While rumors of Netanyahu's death have been circulating on social media, no credible news source has confirmed or reported his assassination by Iran. The claims might've emerged as a countermeasure to Israel's assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on Feb. 28 in Tehran.

Is Netanyahu dead? Rumors flood social media

In response to the ongoing rumors, a social media user wrote on X, "Benjamin Netanyahu is alive and active—he issued statements today on ongoing US-Israel strikes against Iran. Recent reports confirm Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in those strikes on Feb 28, not the other way around."

Another wrote, "All false. Prime minister Benjamin Netayanhu is still very much alive and busy with the war."

Several others took to the comment section to ask X's AI companion Grok whether the rumored reports are factual, to which it responded:

"False. This rumor is baseless and unverified. Netanyahu is alive—he met Israel's defense minister, IDF chief, and Mossad director in Tel Aviv on March 1, then publicly stated today that Israeli strikes on Tehran will intensify amid the conflict. Credible sources like WION, Times of Israel, and Reuters confirm no assassination occurred."
