ALBAWABA - A sexual scandal is chasing an Iraqi oil official and the head of the financial department at his company, sparking public controversy and anger, with people calling on the government to punish the two officials.

A video allegedly showed a sexual scene, which circulators claimed involved the general manager of the oil projects company and the director of the financial affairs department. The clip has rapidly gone viral on social media, before some questioned whether it was true or generated by Artificial Intelligence.

The video was accompanied by a wave of comments and sharp criticism on social media platforms, amid demands to open an urgent investigation to reveal the truth about the video and verify its authenticity and the circumstances of its recording. Taking into consideration that several parties denied these accusations, confirming that the person who appeared in the video is not the oil manager, while others said the clip is edited.

Some Iraqi news websites reported that high-level orders were issued from Baghdad to launch an immediate investigation into the incident, forming a specialized team to probe the facts and uncover the circumstances surrounding the video that sparked public outrage in recent hours.

The video will undergo thorough technical and legal examination to verify its authenticity and the circumstances of its filming, as well as to confirm the identities of the individuals appearing in it.

Until this moment, there is no official statement by the government in Iraq regarding the viral footage, and its authenticity remains unclear.

Iraq's Oil Project Company responds to the video:

Iraq's Oil Project Company (SCOP) made an official statement on Facebook denying that the person in the viral sexual video is the company's general manager, confirming that they are "false claims".

It said, "The Oil Projects Company wishes to clarify to the public and all relevant parties the truth regarding a video recently circulated on some social media pages, accompanied by false claims alleging that the company's General Manager is the person appearing in the video."

The statement continued, "While we categorically deny these allegations, we affirm that everything attributed to the General Manager in this regard is completely false and has no connection to him whatsoever. It is merely a cheap attempt at personal and institutional targeting and to mislead public opinion."

The company also urged all media outlets and social media users to exercise the utmost accuracy and professionalism and to refrain from circulating or republishing misleading visual materials without verifying their sources.
