ALBAWABA - A picture has made headlines allegedly showing the former leader of Hamas Ismail Haniyeh on the first page of Forbes magazine.

According to the allegations, many took to social media to claim that Haniyeh, who was assassinated in Tehran on July 31, appeared on one of the covers of the American Forbes magazine with an article about his wealth.

Many social media pages allegedly said that Forbes magazine is denouncing the size of the wealth of Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas since 2017. The text accompanying the cover photo reads: "Haniyeh's wealth amounts to $4 billion … and he claimed that he wanted to liberate his people from the occupation.”

Nonetheless, the date of the Forbes cover reads Oct. 7, 2023. The photo received wide interaction on social media, with comments including ones who were shocked by the alleged fortune the Hamas leader allegedly has.

What's the truth behind Haniyeh's image on Forbes magazine?

To be more correct the image, which is circulating on social media weeks after the killing of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, is not new and it was viral also shortly after the Oct. 7 surprise attack carried out by Al-Qassam Brigades against Israel.

Many people after Oct. 7, also shared the same image claiming that Forbes magazine placed Ismail Haniyeh on its cover. However, the image is fake, according to the magazine and many experts.

This cover image is a composite, as indicated by several elements in its design. Forbes spokesperson denied to Agence France-Presse (AFP) that the American magazine issued the cover.
