ALBAWABA- Russia and Ukraine exchanged large-scale drone and missile strikes on Sunday, further intensifying the long-range aerial campaign that has become a major feature of the war.
Ukrainian forces launched one of their largest drone attacks in recent months against the Moscow region overnight. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said about 600 drones were detected approaching the capital and that Russian air defenses destroyed more than 200 of them. One strike hit a major Wildberries logistics warehouse near Podolsk, in the Koledino industrial zone, triggering a large fire.
Authorities reported one death and several injuries in the area, as well as damage at other locations across the Moscow region. Wildberries said its employees had been evacuated and that operations were being redirected to other warehouses.
Russia responded with a combined missile and drone attack on Ukraine.
The Russian Defense Ministry said its forces targeted a Ukrainian facility producing unmanned boats west of Odesa. Russian strikes also hit Kyiv, where fires broke out in several districts.
Among the most prominent sites affected was the Pochaina book market in the Obolonskyi district, near the Pochaina metro station. Several rows of stalls were destroyed, with vendors reporting the loss of large quantities of books and other goods.
Emergency crews eventually contained the fire, despite difficult conditions caused by flammable materials. Ukrainian authorities reported injuries in Kyiv, while additional Russian strikes, including one on an industrial facility in Kryvyi Rih, caused further casualties and damage.
Commenting on the Russian strikes, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on X that emergency services were responding to the attacks across the country. He reported that six people were injured in Kyiv and the surrounding region, while ballistic missile strikes hit Kremenchuk and Kryvyi Rih. In Kryvyi Rih, two people were killed and 14 others injured, while another person was killed in Sumy. Zelenskyy said air-raid alerts remained active in several regions following another wave of Russian drone attacks.
He added that 13 Ukrainian regions had come under attack during the week, with Russia launching more than 1,550 attack drones, nearly 1,560 guided aerial bombs and 62 missiles, most of them ballistic missiles.
Zelenskyy thanked emergency responders, police and medics for their efforts and called on Ukraine’s international partners to strengthen air defenses, arguing that additional interceptor systems could help protect civilians and critical infrastructure. He also urged continued international pressure to stop Russia’s attacks.
The reciprocal strikes reflect an intensifying pattern of long-range attacks. Ukraine has increasingly targeted Russian logistics hubs, energy infrastructure and economic facilities deep inside Russian territory, while Russia continues to strike Ukrainian cities, industrial sites and military-related production facilities.
Both sides maintain that their attacks target military or dual-use facilities, although civilian infrastructure and commercial sites have repeatedly been damaged.
