ALBAWABA—ChatGPT users cannot access or use the AI tool as OpenAI's chatbot experienced a major outage in the early hours of Feb. 6.

"Worldwide ChatGPT Outage" has been trending on social media, especially on Elon Musk's X platform as it topped other searches.

Thousands of users have submitted logging complaints on platforms like Downdetector, which tracks website outages. As well as about 98 percent of complaints cited problems with ChatGPT, indicating a widespread disruption in its functionality.

It is worth noting that ChatGPT experienced in mid-January another outage. On Jan.23, over 10,000 people reported an issue in accessing the AI chatbot.

Is DeepSeek behind ChatGPT's repeated outages?

Since the repeated issues that have been facing OpenAI's ChatGPT, many people on social media claimed that it could be linked to the release of the Chinese chatbot DeepSeek, which became rapidly the number one downloaded app on Apple Store in the United States.

Theories that DeepSeek or that China has been cyber-attacking ChatGPT also emerged following the outages that have been affecting the OpenAI chatbot.

A social media user posted: "Since the Deepseek launched, ChatGPT is shaking, today again down."

Another X user wrote today: "ChatGPT is down, and DeepSeek is displaying a banner suggesting it has suffered from a cyber attack." Moreover, a person commented: "ChatGPT went down globally after 1 week of Deepseek!!"
