"White men targeted?" Trump positions them as victims of "reverse discrimination"

ALBAWABA - The Trump administration is now encouraging "white men" to lodge complaints of discrimination, a move that coincides with a growing effort to roll back diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.  

The Trump administration took the unusual step of urging white men who feel they've been discriminated against at work to lodge formal civil rights complaints. Critics argue this is a direct attack on diversity, equity, and inclusion programs nationwide.  

Andrea Lucas, currently serving as the acting chair of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), shared a post on X. In it, she stated that white male employees or job seekers who have faced or observed discrimination related to race or gender "might be eligible for financial compensation under federal civil rights laws."  

Lucas emphasized that the EEOC's mandate is to combat discrimination in all its forms, even when white men allege they've been treated unfairly.  

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), born from the Civil Rights Act of 1964, was initially created to address widespread discrimination. Its primary focus was on protecting African Americans and other marginalized groups from unfair treatment. Trump's order represents a notable change in the agency's communication and the focus of its enforcement actions.  

Since his return to the White House, Trump has intensified his campaign against federal DEI programs. He's also publicly urged private businesses to drop similar initiatives, claiming they unjustly disadvantage the "white majority" of the nation.  

The EEOC's website now features a section on what it terms "DEI-related discrimination," a clear indication of the administration's evolving stance. Previous administrations' DEI initiatives have already been undone.  

DEI programs, initially designed to assist communities that have faced historical disadvantages, are now facing significant criticism from conservative factions. These groups contend that such initiatives amount to a form of reverse discrimination.
