Western Digital (WD), the leading hard drive manufacturer, has announced that it has won two prestigious storage awards. WD was named the winner in the “Storage” category in the PC Magazine Manufacturer of the Year Awards 2004-2005 which was announced during the recently-concluded GITEX Dubai 2005, while the WD Passport Portable USB 2.0 Drive was voted the Best Storage Device at the Windows Middle East Awards.
The Manufacturer of the Year Awards 2004-2005 is instituted by ‘PC Magazine Middle & Near East’, the region’s most influential and largely read technology magazine, whereas the Windows Middle East Awards is organized by ITP, the largest business and consumer magazine publisher in the Middle East.
“We are honored to win these two important awards, which are considered among the most prestigious of their kind in the Arab world,” said Hafeez Khawaja, WD’s Senior Regional Director, Middle East, Africa and South Asia. “The fact that both the awards more or less coincided with GITEX, an event where the WD range of new-age hard drives had generated considerable visitor response, is only in the fitness of things. We consider the awards to be an acknowledgement of our sustained excellence in the area of data storage.”
The WD Passport Portable USB 2.0 Drive, which won the Best Storage Device award at the Windows Middle East Awards, is a high-performance 5400 RPM drive that is simple to use, light in weight and easy to carry. The highlight of Western Digital’s participation at GITEX, the state-of-the-art drive allows for easy connection to PC or Macintosh laptops and computers, and is powered directly through the USB cable, eliminating the need for a power adaptor.
Western Digital had showcased its range of new-age hard drives at GITEX Dubai 2005, the largest IT exhibition in the region. Besides WD Passport Portable USB 2.0 Drive, the products that were put on show include the WD Essential NetCenter network hard drives, WD Extreme Lighted Combo drives and the WD Caviar RE drives.
“Being a long-time leader in the hard drive industry, Western Digital realizes the need for constant innovation in order to efficiently cater to changing customer requirements, and it is this unrelenting focus on innovation that has helped us maintain our leadership position in the Middle East market. WD will continue to provide cost-effective storage solutions designed to meet the most demanding individual and organizational needs,” Khawaja concluded.
