ALBAWABA -  Iranian media reported Tuesday that sounds of explosions were heard on Iran's Qeshm Island.

According to Iran's state news agency, Mehr, residents have reported hearing an explosion on the island of Qeshm.

The Deputy Governor of Hormozgan Province for Security Affairs, Ahmad Nafisi, explained that the explosions heard this afternoon in several areas of Qeshm Island were caused by the dismantling of unexploded ammunition.

In a statement to Tasnim News Agency, he explained that these operations were carried out by specialized teams, noting that the series of explosions, which alarmed residents, were part of the technical procedures for handling unexploded ammunition.

These explosions mark the second such incident in 24 hours. Yesterday, the Iranian news agency reported hearing explosions on Qeshm caused by small, unidentified drones.

U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that he had called off scheduled attacks on Iran on Monday as "serious negotiations" were taking place.

Since the war started, Iran has blockaded the Strait of Hormuz, through which around 20 percent of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas passes. In response, the U.S. military later launched its own naval blockade on the waterway.

In addition, a senior Iranian official said the Strait of Hormuz will "forever remain in the possession and management" of Tehran.
