ALBAWABA - On social media, a video that purports to show that Houthi fighters demolished Israel's Ben Gurion Airport has received millions of views and generated a great deal of debate. Viewers are alarmed by the video, which shows burning airplanes and what seems to be anarchy at the airport.
CNN's research, however, has verified that the footage is not real. Experts concluded that it was created using deepfake technology and had no confirmed link to any actual Houthi strikes or airport issues.
Tools for digital content analysis showed that the images were produced by alteration and fake input. Additionally, Ben Gurion Airport had no damage or interruptions throughout the relevant period, according to international flight monitoring services.
A few days after another projectile was reported to have fallen close to the airport on May 4, the Houthi organization had earlier claimed credit for conducting a missile attack on the airport on May 17. Israel attacked Houthi targets in retaliation.
Despite these genuine occurrences, the widely shared viral film has been definitively shown to be digitally fake and not proof of any actual airport damage.
