On Wednesday, a U.S. soldier was shot dead in Kuwait where he was participating in a military exercise, the U.S. embassy in Kuwait said.
"The cause of the incident is under investigation," an embassy statement said. "The soldier was assigned to a training area in the desert approximately 25 miles northwest of Kuwait City."
The statement did not identify the soldier who it said was killed “from a gun shot wound to the head."
It did not provide further details and embassy staff declined to comment.
The United States has maintained a military presence in the oil-rich state since it led the Gulf War that ended Iraq's seven-month occupation of Kuwait in 1991. (Albawaba.com)
