ALBAWABA - In a visit to mend the already tested relations between China and the US, National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, has landed in Beijing, and was greeted by senior Chinese officials.
Upon landing, Sullivan was greeted by the Chinese foreign ministry's chief for the North American and Oceanian department Yang Tao in addition to the US Ambassador in China Nicholas Burns.
Sullivan has served as Biden's go-to person for frequently unexpected meetings with the senior foreign policy official of the Communist Party to manage the widening rift between Beijing and Washington.
Sullivan's visit, which will last till Thursday, is an attempt to keep lines of communication open in a relationship that fell apart over the course of over a year in 2022–2023 and was only gradually repaired over many months.
Though Sullivan's discussions may pave the way for a potential last summit with Chinese leader Xi Jinping before Biden's January resignation, no significant announcements are anticipated.
