ALBAWABA - Tehran has the capacity to react aggressively to any military escalation, including the possible sinking of American aircraft carriers and strikes on American sites in the area, according to a new warning against the United States from an Iranian member of parliament.
In an interview, Amir Hayat Moghaddam, a former commander of the Revolutionary Guard and a member of Iran's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, stated that Iran has "full capability" to counter American military threats. In the case of war, he said, U.S. personnel may be captured and American naval assets targeted.
The legislator maintained that Iran does not aim to start a conflict while taking a combative stance. According to him, Tehran's defensive approach is based on "decisive retaliation" in the event of an attack.
Highlighted Missile Capabilities
Additionally, Hayat Moghaddam asserted that the United States' defenses would be useless against Iran's arsenal of ballistic missiles. He maintained that recent regional conflicts showed how vulnerable American forces were and that the military's reputation had suffered due to Iran's missile capability.
Nuclear Discussions Continue
The comments coincide with ongoing indirect nuclear talks between Washington and Tehran, which are being mediated by Oman. The Iranian official reiterated that Tehran will not comply with calls for uranium to be "zero-enriched," arguing that its nuclear program is meant for peaceful and therapeutic uses.
Although Iran appreciates diplomatic engagement, he continued, it is still doubtful that Washington will uphold any future agreements. The congressman stated that in the face of what he called ongoing external threats, Tehran continues to prioritize bolstering its national security.
The remarks demonstrate the heated rhetoric between the two sides as more military signaling occurs in the area and diplomatic talks continue.
