ALBAWABA - Since the United States' announcement to refuse to extend the 60-day ceasefire Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Iran, media reports have emerged that Washington is preparing to use "nuclear weapons" against Tehran.

It all started when former American Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene claimed that officials in Washington are discussing nuclear weapons against Iran, warning of catastrophic global consequences.

Greene didn't provide evidence for the allegations about using nuclear weapons against Tehran. However, she stressed: "I'm not speculating, I know."

The congresswoman wrote on X, "Yes, you read that correctly. It’s real. I’m not speculating, I know," adding, "The last time a nuclear weapon was used was August 6th and 9th of 1945 on two cities in Japan, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, immediately killing 110,000 people, vaporizing people at ground zero, and total deaths reached 214,000 by the end of the year from severe burns and trauma."

However, an Iranian official announced that Tehran doesn't fear any American attack, stressing that the country is ready for whatever scenario is used against the Islamic Republic.

Fada Hossein Maleki, a member of the Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said on alleged nuclear weapon use against Tehran, "If such an action is taken, the Islamic Republic of Iran will also respond, and its reaction will be proportionate to the type of weapon used against Iran."

However, he said, "I do not rule out an ill-considered action by Trump, but I do not think he would dare to do such a thing, because such an action could plunge the world into a dangerous war."

When the Iranian lawmaker was asked whether Iran would respond using nuclear weapons if the U.S. used them, Maleki commented: "Whatever the US uses, Iran will respond to it."
