The United Nations Secretary General's Special Adviser on Cyprus is expected to return to Cyprus Tuesday night, for the continuation of direct talks on the Cyprus issue, following a short break for the September 6 meeting in Paris between UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, President Glafcos Clerides and Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash.
According to CNA, on Monday, de Soto visited the European Commission in Brussels and met with Commissioner on Enlargement Gunter Verheugen, in the context of coordination between the United Nations and the European Union on solving the Cyprus problem and in view of the Copenhagen European Council in December, which will invite candidate countries to join the bloc.
