Barclays Bank PLC, one of the world’s largest international banks, has launched the Barclays Ramadan Football Tournament, a charity competition set to raise funds for sporting equipment at Jumierah’s Al Shafey School, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Juma Bin Maktoum Al Maktoum.
The tournament, which kicked-off on October 16th at the Al Shafey school field, features 16 teams. The 9-a-side competition is open to all ages, with the cup final scheduled for 1st November.
The following teams are competing in this tournament: Barclays, Al Ain, Cienfuegos, Dubai Bank, Biggles, Hawi Technology, Al Salam, Dubai Team, Mas, AL Bahja, Al Arif, Al Boom, Arabica, Al Muharram, Persi, and Al Habtoor.
The first stage of the tournament will see teams divided into four groups with each team playing the others in the group once. The top two teams in each group will then progress to the knock-out stage.
“Internationally, Barclays is an ardent supporter of both community sports and local charity initiatives,” said Florence Goodman, Head of Public Relations and Corporate Affairs Middle East, Barclays Group.
“The Barclays Ramadan Tournament is part of our ongoing community programme, Miles Ahead, which is a global campaign we are supporting in the UAE. Our ultimate aim is to contribute to a better society for all and raising funds for this school is an important step towards this goal,” added Goodman.
The Miles Ahead initiative is part of Barclays’ global community support programme, which uses the voluntary, meaningful investment of money, staff time and other resources, to facilitate economic growth in the countries in which it operates.
