The U.N. nuclear agency said Friday that Iran failed to honor promises made under an agreement to safeguard nuclear material, a diplomat said, according to AP.
The report comes only 10 days before a critical meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency board, which is set to review Iran's nuclear programs. The United States wants the IAEA to declare Iran in violation of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty at the session June 16.
A diplomat from an IAEA member country told AP the report indicated that Tehran failed to declare the import of some nuclear material and its subsequent processing.
"Iran has failed to meet its obligations under its safeguards agreement with respect to the reporting of nuclear material, the subsequent processing and use of that material and the declaration of facilities where that material was stored and processed," the diplomat quoted the report as saying.
The diplomat stressed, however, that efforts were being made to bring Iran into compliance. (Albawaba.com)
