Works of the group of experts of the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA) countries ended on Saturday in Algiers in preparation for the meeting of foreign affairs ministers which will be held on March 19 at Algeria's initiative.

The two-days-meeting, which gathered experts and high executives from the union, was chaired by Nadir Larbaoui, Maghreb manager at the foreign affairs ministry.

Algeria, it was recalled, proposed the setting up of an ad-hoc group, composed of high executives and academicians to think about the union functioning, assess the methodology and even the institutional structures.

The aim was to give new breath to the UMA considered as a strategic option, by making perpetuating and making this union credible.

Missions of this working group are important, Larbaoui declared to the APS shortly before the beginning of the meeting.

For Larbaoui, "it is to proceed in a collective way to a reflection on what is to be brought as corrective arrangements and may be even, to the revision of the UMA", in the light of transformations and evolutions lived though by the Maghreb countries on the internal, regional and international plans.

"It appears necessary, an even imperative, to proceed to a pause think, to open ways, fields of reflection and propose to the follow-up committee recommendations which could guarantee to the Maghreb union a better efficiency, a better rationality and also a modernist vision of the Maghreb action,” Larbaoui added.
