The United Arab Emirates called on Monday for a swift international action to deter what it called Israel's plan to destroy symbols of Palestinian independence. "The daily attacks by Israeli forces have exceeded all moral boundaries...the consecutive incidents show that the Israeli government is due to carry out a plan aimed at destroying all the symbols of the Palestinian authority," said Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.

"This does not in any way serve the future of the peace process which has been stalled by Israeli obstinacy and the international community is required to act immediately," he said in comments carried by the official UAE news agency "WAM."

Sheikh Sultan called for international observers to be sent to Palestinian-ruled areas.

In Kuwait, a group opposing the establishment of ties with Israel said any chance for a just and lasting peace would be lost if an urgent action was not taken to end "Zionist tyranny in the occupied lands."

"We call on Arab leaders to take a clear and united stand...and not give in to international pressures aimed at justifying attacks against the Palestinians by the Zionist occupation forces," said the public congress opposing normalization with Israel in a statement Monday, cited by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
