A roadside bomb blast has killed two American Marines near the western Anbar province city of Fallujah, the military said Friday. the incident tok place Thursday.
Also Friday, a car bomb went off in Baghdad, killing at least 11 people and wounding 38, doctors at al-Yarmuk hospital told Reuters. Police said they had reports of eight dead and 28 wounded in the explosion in the Doura district of southern Baghdad.
The incident was reoprted as Iraq's electoral commission declared the final results of December's parliamentary elections, which confirmed the dominance of the ruling Shi'ite Alliance.
Kidnapped reporter
Abducted American reporter Jill Carroll appeared in a video aired Thursday on a private Kuwaiti TV station, appealing for her supporters to do whatever it takes to win her release "as quickly as possible." Carroll said the date was Feb. 2.
The 28-year-old freelance reporter for The Christian Science Monitor was kidnapped nearly a month in Baghdad by armed men who killed her Iraqi translator.
In the new tape, she said she had sent one letter and was sending another to "prove I am with the mujahedeen." "I sent you a letter written by my hand, but you wanted more evidence," she said. "I am here. I am fine. Please just do whatever they want, give them whatever they want as quickly as possible. There is very short time. Please do it fast. That's all."
The 22-second video was carried by Al Rai TV, a private Kuwaiti channel, the AP reported.
The tape was given earlier Thursday to Al Rai's office in the Iraqi capital and was aired in its entirety, Hani al-Srougi, an editor at the station's headquarters in Kuwait, told The Associated Press. It was accompanied by a letter written by Carroll.
Meanwhile, a Sunni tribal chief, Sheikh Rasheed Safi, and four relatives were found dead Thursday in Baghdad, police said. They had disappeared Wednesday after attending a funeral, said relatives.
