Gunmen killed a Polish and an Algerian journalist in a drive-by shooting south of Baghdad, police said Friday. Another Pole was injured in the shooting in Mahmoudiyah, some 30 kilometers south of Baghdad, police Lt. Alaa Hussein said, according to The AP.

Hussein added the journalists worked for a Polish television station.

Elsewhere, Danish troops killed an Iraqi man after the truck he was driving didn't slow down as it approached their checkpoint, the military said Friday. The incident happened Thursday night.

Meanwhile, in Washington pressure was growing on President Bush to fire Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld following the abuse and humiliation of Iraqi prisoners by U.S. captors.

On Thursday, Democrats called for Rumsfeld's dismissal and two congressional panels prepared to confront him Friday.

On his part, Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, called for Rumsfeld's ouster "for the good of our country, the safety of our troops and our image around the globe. If he doesn't resign, the president should fire him."

Many other Democrats on Capitol Hill soon echoed Harkin's call, but Republicans rebuffed these calls. (Albawaba.com)
