Turkey’s ailing Prime Minister, Bulent Ecevit firmly rejected on Wednesday calls from opposition parties, chambers of commerce, industry and bourse for his resignation.
In a press statement issued at his residence, Ecevit said the resignation of his government during this critical point in time would deepen the economic crisis and his government would not be responsible for that, according to KUNA.
He added that his partners in the ruling coalition party support him and reject the idea of early elections. In addition, the Turkish Premier accused several political and media figures of provoking public opinion.
Meanwhile, the board of commerce, industry and bourse in Turkey held an urgent meeting on Tuesday to discuss the political and economic conditions in the country. They all agreed on the need for Ecevit's resignation. (Albawaba.com)
