Turkey’s Premier on Monday granted civil servants a half-day off so that they could watch their national soccer team compete in its first-ever World Cup semifinal match.

"I know everyone in our country is waiting for Wednesday in excitement and hope," Bulent Ecevit, who is recovering from a series of illness at home, said in a written statement, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

Turkey faces Brazil in the semifinals in Saitama, Japan. Civil servants will get the afternoon off to watch the match, Ecevit stated. (Albawaba.com)
