Police in Turkey detained around 15 people Wednesday in a demonstration in Istanbul against a possible US-led military strike on neighboring Iraq, Anatolia news agency reported.

The protestors gathered in the downtown Beyoglu district, where they set up a ballot box and asked passers-by to cast votes as to whether war should be waged against the Iraqi regime.

Security forces eventually took the protestors into custody, Anatolia said.

Meanwhile, in Ankara, several university students also took to the streets denouncing any military action against Iraq, the agency added.

"Give money to education not war, the Iraqi people are not alone," chanted the protestors before dispersing peacefully. (Albawaba.com)
