Twenty-two activists were arrested in Istanbul on Sunday for protesting the jail conditions of former Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan, serving a life sentence on an isolated island, according to Anatolia news agency.

Turkish police used tear gas to break up the 200-strong rally called by the pro-Kurdish People's Democracy Party when protesters read a statement denouncing Ocalan's treatment.

Police arrested 22 of them, including 10 women, the news agency said. (Albawaba.com)
