The leader of Turkey's governing party, Recep Tayyip Erdogan was on his way to Washington Monday, headed for an official visit that comes in response to an invitation extended by US President George W. Bush.
In the US capital, Erdogan's talks are expected to deal with the Iraqi issue, bilateral cooperation, the Cypriot matter and the future of relations between Turkey and the European Union (EU).
Media Bureau for Justice and Development party in Turkey said in a press statement that Erdogan will be starting on Tuesday his discussions in Washington with US President George Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, US Secretary of State Colin Powell, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and US national security adviser Condoleezza Rice, according to KUNA news agency.
In addition, Erdogan is expected to hold talks with officials in the US-Turkish council as well as with leading Jewish figures in the Jewish lobby in the United States.
The press statement added that after concluding his discussions, Erdogan would be heading for New York to discuss with United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan the Cypriot issue. (Albawaba.com)
