A third border post between Iraq and Iran is set to open shortly, an Iraqi transport official told Ath-Thawra newspaper on Monday.

"The Public Road Transport Co. has taken all steps necessary to facilitate transit through the Zurbatiya border post," some 150 kilometers east of the capital Baghdad, said the company's director, Yahia Khedr al-Ani.

Currently, there are two border posts in use between the two neighboring countries, who fought a deadly war between 1980 and 1988: Mundharya in the north and Shalamja in the south.

Meanwhile, Ani added that the border post between Iraq and Saudi Arabia, closed since Iraq's 1990 invasion of Kuwait, would be reopened in the "coming days." (Albawaba.com)
