ALBAWABA - One of the biggest assault ships in the U.S. Navy, the USS Wasp, is now parked in Izmir Port. Members of the Turkish Youth Union (TGB) have declared that they put a bag over the head of a U.S. soldier serving on board.
Prior notice had been given by the Ministry of National Defense on the USS Wasp's September 1–5 port call at Izmir Port. Protests were sparked when the amphibious assault ship landed at the port on Monday.
TGB members accosted a U.S. soldier during the demonstration and, in a symbolic show of defiance, put a sack over his head.
Aydınlık sources state that after the event, 13 TGB members—among them the organization's chairman, Kayahan Çetin—were brought into jail.
Orhan Bursalı, the secretary-general of the Vatan Party, commended the TGB's measures on X, saying:
"Vatan Party Youth Vanguard and TGB members have bravely covered an American officer's head with a sack! This is a present from the youth of Turkey to everyone fighting back against Israeli and American aggression in Gaza and Palestine! Zionists, imperialists, and US military have no place on our territory! We are proud of their boldness!"
