Kuwait will launch a telethon Monday for the Palestinian people, joining other Gulf countries, which have so far raised millions of dollars through televised campaigns to support the same cause.

According to the orders of Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah, the television fundraiser will begin at 0700 GMT and continue until 2100 GMT, according to Al-Qabas newspaper.

Quoting a source in the information ministry, the daily reported that donations could be made from citizens and expatriates in and outside Kuwait and that non-governmental organizations would also take part.

Kuwait transferred 7.5 million dollars to the Palestinian Authority (PA) last week as the emirate's April payment into a 55-million-dollar pan-Arab fund, most of which will be supplied by the Gulf states.

Kuwait, which also regularly sends food supplies to support 1,000 families in Hebron, has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars through several campaigns, mainly organized by NGOs. (Albawaba.com)
