A Syrian source has issued a denial statement to the London-based daily al-Zaman

The source refuted what was previously published by various media reports quoting Israeli sources saying that secret messages had reached the Israeli government indicating that Damascus is ready to renew negotiations without prior conditions. The Syrian source emphasized that these remarks were baseless.

The Syrian source added that such reports are not worthy of commenting on, especially as the Syrian position is well known. He reiterated Syria's adherence to a just and comprehensive peace, based on implementing U.N. resolutions 242 and 338, the Madrid terms of reference and the land for peace formula.

Last week, the Israeli Foreign Minister, Shimon Peres told an Arabic daily that Israel had recieved positive signals from Damascus concerning the resumption of peace talks.(Albawaba.com)
