Syrian President Bashar Al Assad Tuesday became a father for the first time after less one year of his marriage.
The London-based daily Al Sharq Al Awsat reported that first lady Asma Al Akhras delivered a baby boy, expected to be named Hafez, after his late grandfather who died in June 2000.
Bashar and Asma were wedded in Damascus early this year without any official celebration.
Asma Al Akhras is the daughter of a Syrian heart surgeon, Fawwaz Al Akhras, who lives and works in London. The Akhras family is originally from Homs, to the north of Damascus.
The first Syrian lady was born in London in 1975. She received her education in London and graduated with a B.Sc. degree in computer from the University of London’s King College.
In addition to Arabic and English, Mrs. Assad is proficient in French and Spanish. After graduating from the university, she worked in the field of economic and financial analysis for investment banks, which make studies on international markets -- Albawaba.com
