Syrian state-run press accused Washington on Saturday of pressuring United Nations weapons inspectors operating in Iraq with constant talk of war.

"Washington keeps on talking about war and reinforcing its military deployments in the region in the aim of pressuring" UN arms inspectors, Ath-Thawra said.

"American pretexts to launch a war against Iraq are falling one after the other but the ... administration continues to pressure international inspectors with the goal of breaking international will," it added.

Meanwhile, Tishrin reported that the "American-Israeli alliance threatens humanity with new catastrophes ... while the United Nations has been unable to implement a single resolution on the Palestinian cause."

Tishrin, in addition, denounced an Israeli raid into the Bureij refugee camp in the Gaza Strip Friday that left 10 Palestinians dead, including two UN employees.

"What is currently happening constitutes a marginalization of international law, treaties and accords, and a return to the law of the jungle," it said. (Albawaba.com)
