A Palestinian man was shot dead early Saturday by three masked gunmen in the northern West Bank town of Nablus for suspicion of collaborating with Israel, reproted AFP, quoting hospital sources and neighbors as saying.
Pottery shop owner Samir al-Bakri, 46, received a knock on his door at 5:00 a.m., and was then shot nine times outside his home by the gunmen, the sources said, adding that he died before reaching hospital.
Neighbors said they thought Bakri had been murdered for suspected collaboration with Israel, but expressed dismay over his death.
"Bakri had been no more than a small-time collaborator and was not dangerous," one of the neighbors told AFP.
A dozen family members and friends of Bakri fired Kalashnikov assault rifles in the air in the center of Nablus to protest the killing, said the agency.
Last month, the Palestinian Authority has executed for the first time two men for collaborating with Israel, condemned two others to death and arrested scores more.
There has also been a series of killings by Palestinians of suspected collaborators.
Meanwhile, a Palestinian, who turned himself in to the Palestinian authorities on Friday, confessed that he had leaked information to Israel's security service on Fateh leader Thabet Thabet, who was later assassinated in the West Bank city of Tulkarem last December.
