ALBAWABA - Gunfire was reported near the Israeli consulate in Istanbul on Tuesday, local media confirmed.

Turkish media outlet Haberler said that police teams were dispatched to the scene of the gunfire.

Istanbul Police Department said in a statement, "3 individuals have been neutralized." Two policemen were injured in the shooting attack near the Israeli Consulate in Turkey.

Istanbul Public Prosecutor's Office ordered to open an investigation into the circumstances of the shooting incident near the Israeli Consulate.

Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi stated, "Three individuals who engaged in an armed clash with our police officers on duty in front of the Yapı Kredi Plaza Blocks in Istanbul have been neutralized. Two of our heroic police officers were slightly injured in the clash."

It added, "The identities of the terrorists have been determined. It has been established that one of the individuals, who were found to have come to Istanbul from Izmit in a rented vehicle, has links to an organization that exploits religion; and that one of the two terrorists, who are brothers, has a drug-related record."

However, Reuters reported that there are no Israeli diplomats currently in Turkey.

This comes amid tension in the Middle East and the war between Israel alongside the United States against Iran.

The Consulate General of Israel in Istanbul is located in the Levent neighborhood of the Beşiktaş district.
