ALBAWABA - Following the deadly protests in Nepal, which killed at least 22 people, Gen Z protesters announced the election of the country's first-ever female prime minister.
Sushila Karki, who was selected by protesters to lead the country, vowed on Sunday to follow the demands of the demonstrators and 'end corruption' in the country.
AFP reported that Karki said she will only be serving as head of the interim government for six months until fresh elections take place in March 2026.
It is worth mentioning that Sushila Karki is the former chief justice of Nepal.

Nepal's Gen Z Protests:
Tens of thousands of protesters rallied in the streets of Nepal to voice their opposition to a clumsily enforced ban on social media sites, in addition to protesting corruption, igniting the country's deadliest protests.
The Gen Z demonstrators protested near the parliament building in Kathmandu against the decision to ban dozens of unregistered social media platforms such as Facebook, X and YouTube, in addition to showing dissatisfaction with the government's corruption.
Local media in Nepal confirmed on Sept. 9 that the wife of former Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal was burned alive and died after protesters set her house on fire.

In addition, the parliament building and the homes of political leaders were also attacked by demonstrators amid the unrest and set on fire.
On the other hand, videos shared on social media showed people violently attacking the Congress party leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and his wife, Arzu Rana Deuba, who is serving as the country's foreign minister.
