ALBAWABA - Shocking footage has been emerging from Nepal's Gen Z protests, which erupted days ago against the government's corruption and social media ban.
At least 22 people have been killed and hundreds of others were injured in the deadly protests as the police clashed with demonstrators and used force, fired tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse them and halt the rallies.
Tens of thousands in Nepal, who call themselves "Generation Z" (Gen Z) demonstrators, rallied near the parliament building in Kathmandu against the decision to ban dozens of unregistered social media platforms such as Facebook, X and YouTube, in addition to showing dissatisfaction with the government's corruption.
Nepal Gen Z protests turn deadly:
Local media in Nepal confirmed Tuesday that the wife of former Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal was burned alive and died after protesters set her house on fire.
Furthermore, the parliament building and the homes of political leaders were also attacked by demonstrators amid the unrest.
On the other hand, videos shared on social media showed people violently attacking the Congress party leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and his wife, Arzu Rana Deuba, who is serving as the country's foreign minister.
Videos showing protesters attacking and punching Arzu Rana Deuba in the face and bleeding also circulated on social media.
Nonetheless, Nepalese Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel was seen running through Kathmandu streets, trying to escape a number of people, who were chasing him. But he was caught after a young protester jumped and kicked him down. He was later on thrown in the river.
