Survey in Kuwait: Lack of religious awareness is main cause for for extremism

Lack of religious awareness is leading cause for extremism, a survey published Tuesday by Kuwaits's Information Ministry has indicated. The survey, conducted by a team of 13 researchers, figured out that 72.2 percent agreed that this was the main reason for extremism, while 4.8 percent disagreed.

 

It also determined that weak dialogue between youth and authority was the second factor, with 62.1 percent agreeing to this, 31 agreeing to an extent and 6.9 percent in disagreement, Kuna reoprted.

 

As for media campaigns against Islamic nations, this came as the third reason for extremism with 59.9 percent in agreement, while 31.7 percent agreed to an extent and 8.3 percent disagreed.

 

Furthermore, 42.5 percent of the surveyed population agreed that media encouraged extremist ideologies, while 36.7 percent agreed to an extent and 20.8 percent objected.

 

The surveyed population included citizens and expatriates from different areas, schooling and gender.
