Official reports in Afghanistan claim a suicide bomber targeting a police commander killed at least 13 people, including nine civilians, in the northern Parwan province.
Provincial police chief, General Zaman Mamozai, reported that the attack on Monday took place close to a clinic and a bazaar. He added that the casualties included four local police officers. An additional 19 people, including 17 civilians, were injured in the attack.
The police commander who was targeted in the attack was wounded but survived.
An email sent to media by the Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
Taliban militants target Afghan security forces regularly, often killing civilians in the process.
