ALBAWABA - According to the Sudanese Ministry of Health, the death toll from Cholera and Dengue Fever has witnessed a surge recently in various states, as fighting continues to tear through the African Country.
"Eighty-two new cases of cholera and one death were recorded, bringing the number of cases to 24,604, including 699 deaths," the Ministry of Health said in its report released earlier.
The Ministry added that 95 new dengue fever cases have been recorded, with 4 deaths, bringing the total number of cases to 2,024. The number also includes nine deaths across five Sudanese states.
Cholera cases have decreased in several states, notably Khartoum, River Nile, and Northern in the country's north, and Kassala and Gedaref in the east. Other states have seen an upsurge, notably Al-Jazira in Sudan's center and Sennar and White Nile in the south.
Although dengue fever has not been officially declared an epidemic in the nation, the ministry used the word "epidemic" in its statement on Tuesday.
People who become infected with the dengue virus experience high fever, headache, joint and muscular discomfort, nausea, and vomiting. The virus can be transmitted to people by mosquito bites.
It is a bacterial disease that causes severe diarrhea and dehydration, much like cholera, and is typically spread via contaminated water. If not combated with the proper treatment, dengue fever is considered a highly fatal disease.
