Two children have been hospitalized for possible exposure to the deadly anthrax bacteria and are being treated for their symptoms, a Washington DC hospital spokeswoman told AFP Thursday.

"They were possibly exposed to anthrax," Children's National Medical Center spokeswoman Marissa Garis said, adding that the two-year old girl and 11-year old boy were "in good condition."

Asked where the children could have contracted the bacteria, which so far seemed targetted mainly at media representatives and a politician, Garis declined to comment.

"I can't tell you that," she said, citing patient confidentiality.

"They are being treated for their symptoms," she said, without specifying whether the two were being treated for possible respiratory or cutaneous exposure.

The small girl was admitted on October 22, and the boy was admitted October 23, she said -- Washington, (AFP)
