Shooting reported near the Israeli consulate in Munich

ALBAWABA - According to Israeli media reports, gunshots were heard in the vicinity of the Israeli consulate in Munich, Germany.

A video circulated on X showed German police officers chasing the suspect with the sound of heavy gunshots in the background. Israeli Foreign Ministry reported that the gunman had been "neutralized" by the German Police. Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann confirmed the report.

Police stated a man was seen in the vicinity of the Israeli consulate with a long firearm, and five police exchanged fire with their service guns. They stated there was no evidence of any additional suspects. Police sealed off the area surrounding Karolinenplatz, which is near to the city center.

Police stated they were attempting to "clarify" the issue and discouraged conjecture. A police helicopter circled the area, and the public was advised not to share photographs of the event on social media.

Following the incident, authorities increased security at Munich's major synagogue, according to local sources.
