ALBAWABA - A report by the New York Times revealed that Russia has initiated exporting air defense systems and radar equipment to Iran, which was reportedly delivered upon the request of Iranian officials.

According to Iranian state media, the country's new President Masoud Pezeshkian told Russian Secretary of the Security Council, Sergei Shoigu, that Tehran is eager to strengthen ties with its "strategic partner Russia".

"Russia is among the countries that have stood by the Iranian nation during difficult times," Pezeshkian said in a meeting with Sergei Shoigu, according to Iranian official media.

Pezeshkian stated that Iran and Russia's common stances on supporting a multipolar world "will undoubtedly lead to greater global security and peace"

Russia has denounced the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of the Palestinian organization Hamas, in Iran last week and urged all parties to avoid actions that may push the Middle East into a larger regional conflict.

In other remarks made at the discussion with Shoigu, Pezeshkian stated that Israel's "criminal actions" in Gaza and the killing of Haniyeh "are clear examples of the violation of all international laws and regulations".
