The Israeli army has been given a list of 1,000 Palestinian activists to be killed or captured before its proposed withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. According to the Sunday Times, the names, drawn up by Shin Bet, the internal security service, have been supplied to brigade commanders on the ground. More than 50 of the activists are believed to have been killed already during raids in the past fortnight.
The 1,000 targets are drawn from several groups including Hamas and Islamic Jihad. They also include some supporters of Yasser Arafat and a handful of operatives from Lebanon's Hizbullah.
An Israeli field officer based in the Gaza Strip was quoted as saying by the British paper the army was changing its tactics. After initially pursuing the leaders of various groups, it was now turning to second and third-ranking figures in the command structure. (Albawaba.com)
