US-Arab differences over normalization with Israel emerged before the summit in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh and delayed its formal opening, the official MENA news agency reported.

Washington has asked Arabs to undertake measures of normalization with Israel, the Egyptian agency said.

The Arabs, in return, replied that they were not opposed to this demand in principle, but only in the framework of a comprehensive settlement of the Middle East conflict, it added.

The agency further said US and Arab officials tried for two hours to hammer out an "acceptable formula" to be included in the final statement. (Albawaba.com)
