Qatar and Thailand explored Sunday ways of strengthening trade relations, during a visit to Doha by Thai Foreign Minister Surakiart Sathirathai, heading a delegation of 49 MPs, officials and businessmen, reported the Gulf Times.

Sathirathai told journalists that an agreement on avoiding double taxation would be signed very soon and another bilateral agreement on the promotion and protection of investments was in the pipeline.

He said talks were progressing about cooperation in the fields of tourism and construction and a Qatar Petroleum delegation was to visit Thailand to discuss opportunities to work together.

The director general of the Thai Foreign Ministry’s economic affairs department, Pradap Pibulsonggram, told the paper that that Thailand was hoping to develop a partnership with Qatar and would be opening an embassy in Doha very soon.

During the one-day visit, the delegation was briefed about Qatar’s economic plans and concluded that the Qataris would welcome greater cooperation.

A joint business council was to be established, hopefully before the year-end, said Pibulsonggram – Albawaba.com
