Libyan Head of State Muammar al-Qadhafi joined international efforts to calm the worsening situation between India and Pakistan. In two personal telegrams addressed to the leaders of Pakistan and of India respectively, Qadhafi expressed his deepest concern at the situation, and then called the armed confrontation futile. “It is an outmoded way in dealing with crisis and the two countries should have left behind these ways of resolving differences,” the Libyan leader said.
The official Libyan news agency also reported that Qadhafi pointed out to both leaders that India and Pakistan were both parts of same land mass, and were destined to work together: “In this age of globalization and large blocs, the bloc of the Indian Ocean will one day bring both countries together and the whole region will be one defensive unit with a common identity and one currency”.
Qadhafi warned that foreign powers were the ones who originally broke up the peoples of the Indian Subcontinent into separate, warring parties, and that these same powers were now at play fanning the flames of destruction.
Expressing his concern at the nuclear weapons each side possesses, Qadhafi appealed to the two leaders’ wisdom and ability in order to resolve the crisis. (www.albawaba.com)
