ALBAWABA- Polish fighter jets intercepted a Russian reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea, after it approached Polish airspace, the Polish Armed Forces reported.
While no incursion occurred, the incident underscores mounting tensions in the region amid repeated Russian aerial maneuvers.
The interception follows a series of provocations since September 2025, including three Russian jets briefly breaching Estonia’s airspace and over 20 drones entering Polish territory.
NATO’s eastern members, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Romania, have reported multiple similar incidents, with at least 15 EU airspace breaches by Russian aircraft since August, involving both manned jets and drones, often accompanied by GPS jamming and hybrid tactics.
The North Atlantic Council condemned these actions in September, calling for de-escalation and stronger coordination among member states. The maneuvers are likely probes of NATO’s readiness and resolve amid the ongoing war in Ukraine. Russia has denied deliberate violations, describing the flights as routine operations.
The latest interception highlights persistent security challenges in the Baltic region and the ongoing strategic friction between NATO and Russia, raising concerns over potential miscalculations in contested airspace.
